Evelyn Smith - Evelyn Smith passed away peacefully on May 21, 2010, in Petaluma. Loving wife of the late Earl Smith for 61 years. Cherished mother of Ron Smith of Petaluma and Carolyn Simmons and her husband Rich of Petaluma. Devoted grandmother of Jason Simmons and his wife Nancy of Santa Rosa, Kevin Simmons and his wife Jill of Suisun City, CA, Jesse Smith of Ukiah, and Kyla Kitagawa and her husband Justin Egelhoff of Santa Rosa. Doting great-grandmother of Matt, Ashley, Jonathan, Abbie and Elizabeth. Evelyn was born and raised in Maryville, MO. When she graduated from high school she moved with her family to California where she attended Chico State University, graduating in 1943. She married Earl, her high school sweetheart, in 1942, and in 1943 after Earl joined the US Navy she took her first teaching job in Adin, CA. When Earl returned from the war they moved to Berkeley, CA, then to Tiburon, CA and finally to Novato, CA. Evelyn retired from Richmond School District after teaching for 40 years. Evelyn and Earl enjoyed traveling, social events and family gatherings.
