F. Ben Brinkworth

Lt. Col. F. Ben Brinkworth - Lt. Colonel Brinkworth passed away on April 15, 2008 at his Windsor, CA home. Survived by his wife; Barbara Brinkworth of Windsor and his two sons; Daniel Brinkworth and his wife Linda of Alexandria, VA and Forrest Brinkworth of Fairfax, CA. Grandfather of 3 and great-grandfather of 1. Born on November 10, 1917 in Oak Park, IL, Col. Brinkworth enlisted in the Canadian Essex Scottish Regiment at Windsor, Ontario in September 1939, prior to the United States entering WWII. He was captured by German forces in a commando raid on the coast of Dieppe, France on August 19, 1945. He entered the US Army in 1946. In 1947 he was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany during the War Crimes Trials. He was decorated for his service in 1949 in support of the Airlift during his assignment in Berlin. In 1959 he was assigned as Train Commander that brought Nikita Khrushchev and his party from Los Angeles to San Francisco. He was the recipient of several decorations and awards from U.S. and Canadian Governments. After serving several tours overseas in Germany, Japan and Greenland, he retired as a Lt. Colonel in March of 1967.
