Ferdinand J. (Fernando) Dan - Fernando passed away peacefully, in the embrace of his family, on November 29. He was born in Cuneo (Piemonte), Italy in 1919, to Margherita Ellena and Giovanni Dan. He met the love of his life, Gigetta Campigotto, in 1944. They were married in 1946 and lived in Mestre (the Veneto), Italy, where their children, Daniel and Margherita, were born. The family moved to San Francisco in 1955 where they immediately formed strong friendships, many of which continue to this day. As a supervising electrical engineer at PG&E in San Francisco for 28 years, Fernando designed electrical systems for nuclear, geothermal and hydroelectric energy plants and actively served as a technical consultant to various organizations. Fernando and Gigetta moved to Petaluma in the mid-eighties and soon made new friends in that community.
His family and friends knew him as a Renaissance man, a man of the highest integrity and principle, an artist, connoisseur, raconteur, master of the bi-lingual double entendre, a man of unparalleled elegance and whimsy.
At his request, no services will be held. Contributions may be made in his memory to your favorite charity. Or, simply think of Fernando as you gaze at a delicate oil painting, enjoy a fine meal with a bottle of really good wine and dessert or marvel at the natural beauty of a rose garden. Family assisted by PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, Petaluma.
Fernando is survived by his amore Gigetta, his loving children Daniel (Susan) and Margherita (Ralph) Hollenbacher, and his adoring granddaughter Jessica, with whom he shared a strong and special friendship. He is also survived by a brother Aldo, and many relatives in the Bay Area and in Italy, and his dear friend Luigi Pelfini.
