Frances Powell - Passed away suddenly on September 16, 2007 at the age of 85. Beloved wife of the late Francis Powell. Loving mother of Frank (Vivian) Powell, Collette Fleischer, Dave (Linda) Powell all of Petaluma. Grandmother of Erik, Maryann, Brian, Brad and Kevin. Great grandmother of Courvoisian, Chorus and Rian. Preceded in death by sisters, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann, Grace and Vera. Brothers, Hugh, Robert, Arthur and William.
She was born May 27, 1922 in Glasgow, Scotland to Hugh and Mary McCartan. As a young lady she worked in the shipyards of Glasgow during World War Two before picking up roots with her sisters and traveling to New Zealand and later to the United States in search of a better life. In 1950 the sisters started a restaurant at the Greyhound Bus Depot in San Rafael where she met Francis (Buck) Powell at the age of 29. They were married in July of 1951, residing in Petaluma for the past 56 years. After retirement she enjoyed taking numerous cruises around the world. One of her favorite pastimes was playing bingo and going to the casinos with her friends and family. She also loved spending time with her great grandchildren.
