Ben passed away peacefully at the age of 87, at home on January 21, 2015, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Quincy, MA, on November 7, 1927, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area at the age of three. In 1962, he moved with his family to Petaluma and worked as a plumber. He was employed with UCSF Hospitals and retired in 1991.
An avid sports enthusiast, he was a member of the basketball team at Balboa High School in San Francisco. As a proud father, he attended sporting events with his children at Rancho Cotate High School. He was a "hands on" dad who participated with his children in 4-H activities and horse shows.
He was a talented musician and he sang and played the accordion, ukulele, piano and keyboards. He also volunteered as a musician in area nursing homes. He was active in retirement as a member of SIRS, Autumn Leaves and the Accordion Club. He will be missed by his many friends at Merrill Gardens (Emeritus), where he lived since 2011.
Ben will be lovingly remembered by his brother Chet Currier (Marilyn), his sister-in-law Judy Roberts, his daughter Mary Solomon (Harvey), his son Frank Currier (Debi), his son-in-law Louie Bruce, his granddaughter Laura Youngblood (Adam), his grandson Jeff Solomon (Kara), his granddaughter Eryn Del Castillo (Adam), his grandson Frank Bruce, and his great-grandson Parker Solomon, seven nieces, six nephews, his special friend, Diane Snyder, the gang at McDonalds, and his long-time neighbors and friends Janice and Gary MacKinnon.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and Hired Hands Homecare for the skilled and compassionate care they provided for Ben at the end of his life. In his memory, a memorial "Celebration of Life" is scheduled for March 7th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, 6030 Roblar Rd., Petaluma, with a reception following the service. All are welcome to attend.
