Francis Charles Mansell Jr. passed away peacefully at home in Santa Rosa, CA on March 29, 2017. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 9, 1929, the second of eight children born to the late Francis and Elizabeth Mansell.
Frank graduated from Mepham High School in Wantagh, NY in 1946. He attended Yale University where as an athlete he earned his letter in wrestling and graduated in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed in Alaska and Seattle, WA.
He met his wife Delia Ann Murphy of Portland, OR in 1952. They were married in 1953, then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where Frank began his forty year career as an estimator and partner of a major contracting firm, bidding on and overseeing many of Northern California's infrastructure and water treatment projects. He earned an MBA from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He was actively involved in his local parish councils and finance committees. He served on the boards of Catholic Charities, Credo and Mercy Housing in Oakland CA.
He loved reading, crossword puzzles, skiing, hiking, camping and enjoyed many adventurous road trips with his children and grandchildren.
Frank and Delia were world travelers, visiting more than forty countries on five continents. Their travels saw them riding elephants and camels, taking the Trans-Siberia Express from China to Russia and volunteering with Mother Teresa in Calcutta.
Frank Mansell was a generous man with a strong commitment to family, faith and education. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Delia Murphy Mansell and their nine children: Mary, Christine, Theresa, Laura, Jeanne, Tobias, Gerard, Timothy and Michael as well as their spouses and eighteen grandchildren.
