Francis Owen Sherman

Born on May 12, 1919 in Indiana Ranch House near the Keystone Cemetery near Dobbins, CA, his mid-wife donated the land that became the Keystone Cemetery. Francis is survived by his son's; Dennis Sherman of San Francisco and Roger Sherman of Sebastopol, granddaughter; Dinah Sherman of Half Moon Bay and great grandson; Chris Hayashi-Sherman of Japan. He is preceded in death by his son; Steven Sherman in 2004, his grandson; Graham Sherman in 2007 and his beloved wife of sixty-five years; Margaret Sherman in 2013. He graduated from San Diego High School. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy on July 10, 1942, Francis retired on September 25, 1945 thence, served in the Naval Reserve from 1947 to May 22, 1952. He served during World War II aboard the USS Flasher, the historical submarine which sunk the most tonnage of any other submarines, just over one hundred thousand tons. He put the USS Flasher in commission and made all six war patrols. After working five years for Radio Center in Marysville & Yuba City, he moved to Mare Island for five years repairing radar equipment on submarines before moving to Electro-Data in Pasadena-a company working in computer's, in 1955. This company was bought by Burroughs Corporation and became Unisys, just before he retired in 1986. The family moved to Santa Rosa in 1988. Family and friends are invited to attend a Chapel Liturgy Service on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the LAFFERTY & SMITH COLONIAL CHAPEL (4321 Sonoma Highway, Santa Rosa, CA, 95409). His cremains, along with those of his late wife, Margaret, will be inurned by his family in the Sherman Plot at Keystone Cemetery near Dobbins, CA. He will be returning home to his birthplace to be reunited with his late grandmother, mother and father. The family has asked for Memorial Contributions to be sent to the U.S. Submarine World War II Veteran's Memorial Fund (Bridge & Thames Streets, Groton, CT, 06340). Celebration of Life
