Passed away peacefully at her Petaluma residence on September 8, 2014. Devoted wife of 66 years to the late Ramey Chaney of Petaluma. Loving mother of Diane Weis (Steven), of Petaluma, and Bob Chaney (Pat), of Paso Robles, CA. Loving grandmother of Adam Weis (Clara) of Petaluma, Eric Weis (Ramey) of Walnut Creek, Jennifer Correa (Allan) of Paso Robles, and Stephanie Schimmel-Conmy of Hawaii; great grandmother of Hudson Crash Conmy of Hawaii and Marlee Barger (Robert) of Paso Robles.
Genevieve was a native Petaluman, raised on an egg ranch. She attended Cinnabar Elementary School , Petaluma Jr. High, and graduated from Petaluma High School in 1942. She was a seamstress, worked in the cafeteria at Kenilworth Jr. High, and then was owner/operator of the U.S. Bakery in Petaluma along with Ramey from 1958 until 1990, when they retired. They loved camping at the R-Ranch in Hornbrook, were members of the Go-Fer-Kix trailer group, and were proud of the fact that they had traveled through all 50 states of the US after retirement.
Genevieve loved to knit and crochet and was always making Afghans and other items for family, friends and charities. She also loved to garden, and was a very supportive and loving grandmother.
For the last two years, she has been cared for by an angel, Mere Peterson, along with Mere's mother, Liti, husband, Les, and son, Maeson, who became her extended family.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Visitation on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma, CA. Interment will follow on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 12:15 at Cypress Hill Memorial Park, 430 Magnolia Ave., Petaluma, CA. Those who wish may make memorial donations to a favorite charity.
