Born February 2, 1924, left her beloved circle of family and friends on December 30, 2016. A sweet, wonderful, upbeat woman, she always found the best in those around her. Born and raised in Austin, TX, she was anxious to see the world, so she joined the Navy during WWII, proudly becoming a Wave and going to New York for her training. Then on to Long Beach, CA where she met her future husband Blaine, another Navy vet. There they married and settled down to raise six children. Nearing age 50, Georgia went back to school to earn her nursing degree. When her husband died, she retired from nursing and eventually moved to Sonoma County to be near her daughters and grandkids. She enjoyed reading, pottery, gardening, knitting/ crocheting, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. Georgia was always helping in any way that she could, and everyone loved her. Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Blaine; siblings John, William and Bobby Coffey; brother-in-law William Knudsen; and sister-in-law Dorothy Heckt. She is survived by her sister Lou Knudsen; sisters-in-law Estelle and Judy Coffey; brothers-in-law Richard Simons and Mel Heckt; children Sandra, Susan, Eloise, Martha, Gordon and John; grandchildren Justin, Lucas, Zachary and Ryan; sons-in-law Paul, Stuart and Frank; many nieces and nephews; and the many friends she made in her life who also loved her spirit of kindness, generosity, and peace. Georgia will be laid to rest with military honors at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at the Cyprus Hill Cemetery on Magnolia in Petaluma, CA. Arrangements for viewing are being made by Parent-Sorensen Mortuary, 850 Keokuk, Pet., 707-763-4131.
