Gerald Bernard Mahoney

August 2, 1934 — July 2, 2022

Gerald (Jerry) Mahoney, longtime resident of Petaluma, passed away at home on July 2, 2022 at age 87 surrounded by his loved ones. He fought a courageous 5 year battle with Lymphoma. Family was at the center of his heart and he led by example as a devoted son, a caring brother, a loving husband, a wonderful father and a proud grandfather.

Originally from the coal mining town of Girardville, PA, Jerry moved to San Francisco as a young boy. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1952, proudly served in the U.S. Army for 2 years and joined the San Francisco Fire Department in 1956. After a fulfilling and distinguished 32 year career, he retired as a Battalion Chief.

Jerry was married for 58 years to his loving wife, Kathy. He leaves behind daughters Sharon (Jim) Kimball and Patty (David) Nieto; grandchildren Sean (Lexie) Kimball, Kayla Kimball, David Nieto and Ryan Nieto; sister Anna Mae Mahoney; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Josephine Mahoney, and siblings Thomas Mahoney, Jr. and Sister Patricia Mahoney, BVM.

Jerry was an avid fisherman and he entertained us with many fishing stories over the years. As a member of St. James Catholic Church and SIRS, he fostered relationships that left him with a lifetime of cherished memories. Jerry will be most remembered for his friendly nature and generous heart.

Services will be held Friday, July 15th at St. James Catholic Church in Petaluma at 10 am followed by a private burial at   Cypress Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Petaluma or the Petaluma Educational Foundation where a scholarship in his name has been established.
