With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Gloria Jean Ecton, cherished mother, grandmother, and friend. Gloria departed this world on May 24, 2026, at the age of 97, surrounded by the warmth of her home and the love of her family in Petaluma, following a stroke she suffered a few months prior.
Born on November 28, 1928, in the vibrant city of San Francisco, Gloria was the beloved daughter of Marie and Louis Norgueira, who predeceased her. Her early years were imbued with the rich cultural tapestry of the city, which fostered her lifelong love for exploration and learning.
In April 1953, Gloria's life took a beautiful turn when she married her soulmate, Jack Ecton. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and laughter, nurturing their shared dreams and supporting each other until Jack's passing. Their union blessed them with four wonderful children: Michael, Alan, Jacqueline, and Marie, who carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.
Gloria's professional journey was marked by her dedication and commitment. For 19 years, she served as an office administrator at Sir Francis Drake High School, where she was respected for her meticulous work ethic and genuine care for students and staff alike. A passionate volunteer, she devoted 40 years to the Marin Center and Fair, where she greeted countless patrons with a warm smile. Even her part-time role as a daycare aide for 17 years highlighted her nurturing spirit and unwavering dedication to the wellbeing of others.
A devout Catholic, Gloria was a stalwart member of St. James Church in Petaluma, attending weekly services with a faith-filled heart. Her life was a testament to the values she held
dear-compassion, humility, and service.
In her leisure, Gloria was a seasoned traveler, often recounting tales of her adventures with a twinkle in her eye. An avid reader, she found joy in the pages of countless books and the worlds they unveiled. Her fondness for computer games kept her mind sharp and engaged, a testament to her zest for life and learning.
Above all, Gloria will be remembered for her kind, caring, and attentive nature. A loving mother and grandmother, she was ever-present, providing unwavering support and affection to her children-Michael Ecton, Alan Ecton, Jacqueline Pantazes and husband Christos Pantazes, and Marie Tekeli-and her cherished grandchildren, George and Phillip Pantazes and Nicholas Tekeli. Her indelible impact on their lives is a legacy that will endure for generations.
A visitation will be held at 5:00 PM on June 1, 2026, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 PM. Gloria will be honored with a Funeral Service the following day, on June 2, 2026, beginning at 10:00AM. Both services will be held at the Parent Sorensen Mortuary, located at 850 Keokuk St, Petaluma.
Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Gloria are welcome to join in the celebration of her remarkable life.
