Hansueli Enz, longtime member of the dairy and agricultural community of Sonoma County passed away peacefully in his home following a long battle with chronic illness. He will be remembered for his notorious “Swiss-ness”, his pioneering spirit and his love of a good debate. Hansueli immigrated from Switzerland at age 18 and served in the United States Army from 1957 – 1959.
He settled in Sonoma County in 1963 and joined Stornetta Dairy as a driver. He trained and ultimately became the area’s preeminent expert in artificial insemination of cattle. He reluctantly retired at age 80 and often said that he missed the dairymen, but not the driving. He loved to travel, putter in his garden and spend time with his “breakfast buddies.” A proud father and grandfather, Hansueli personified hard work and love of life.
He is survived by his son Hansjuerg Enz, daughter Anette Harden (Enz), his grandsons, Michael Enz and Ben Harden, his sisters Margrit Gautschi and Anni Vifian (Switzerland), and his long-time loving partner, Catherine Miller.
A celebration of life will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the charity of choice.
