HARRY K. SUGIYAMA passed away on September 24, 2014 in Petaluma. Devoted husband of Alyce Sugiyama of Petaluma. Cherished father of Rodney Sugiyama (Signe) of Santa Rosa and Janel Sugiyama (John) of Petaluma. Adored grandfather of Leslie, Laura, and Abby Sugiyama. Loving brother of Isako Yoshimura; Norma, Keiji, Marie Sugiyama; and the late Arthur and Eva Sugiyama and Anna Matsumoto. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Age: 90 years.
A member of : Enmanji Buddhist Temple, SIRS Branch #147, Sonoma County JACL, American Legion Post 28, and VFW Petaluma Post 1929.
Harry was born in Healdsburg and reared and educated in Sebastopol and Santa Rosa. During WWII, he joined the US Army and served overseas. For his service, Harry was awarded several medals and attained the rank of Tec5. In 1953, he married the love of his life, Alyce, and together they enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. He worked for over 35 years for Nor-Cal News as a driver and warehouseman, finally retiring in 1990.
As his children were growing, he enjoyed participating in Little League and was a Boy Scout leader. For his leadership skills, he received the Silver Beaver Award. In his spare time, Harry enjoyed fishing and bowling, but above all, he loved his family. Harry was a wonderful man; he will be greatly missed.
