Hazel Remedios Krauss

April 28, 1928 — January 14, 2014

Hazel entered into eternal peace on January 14, 2014. She was born in Bacolod, Negros Occidental, Philippines, and moved to the United States in 1944. There she met and married Joseph Edward Krauss on September 19, 1947. They settled in the Sunset District of San Francisco, where they raised their sixteen children. Hazel was a woman of tremendous faith. She attended mass daily at St. Anne of the Sunset in San Francisco until she and Joe moved to Petaluma in 1993. In Petaluma, Hazel quickly became a part of the wonderful community at St. James Catholic Church. Hazel was a woman of many talents; including knitting and rosary bead making. She put her God given gifts to use by knitting hats for premature babies and making thousands of rosary beads sent to soldiers overseas and to missionaries who distributed them to people in underdeveloped countries around the world. Preceded in death by her parents, Remedios and George York; husband, Joseph Krauss; children; Elizabeth, Larry, Susan, and Margaret. Survived by her children; Steve Krauss (Vanessa), Cynthia Chernock, Debbie Miglio (Pete), David Krauss, Terri Miglio (Leonard), Tom Krauss (Shelly), Jeff Krauss (Emy), Jennifer McCandless (Tom), Greg Krauss (Molly), Paul Krauss (Donna), Trish Lowe (Rich), and Jonathan Krauss (Norma); 16 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Friends and family may visit Monday, January 20th from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary, 850 Keokuk St, Petaluma, CA 94952 where a rosary will be held at 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 21st, at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy, Petaluma, CA 94954. Interment to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 304 Magnolia Avenue, Petaluma, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
