Helen Nicholas

Helen Nicholas, 85, of Petaluma, CA, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021 under the care of her family and hospice.

Helen was the 5th of 6 daughters born to the late John Nicholas and Andrea (Karabiberis) Nicholas. She lived her early years in Boston, Massachusetts in a Greek Orthodox family along with her sisters, the late Thalia Petros, Victoria Koines, the late Bessie Zisi, Mary Tawa, and Demetra Mainou.

Helen married John Foody in 1961 and relocated to California. First and foremost, she was a dedicated mother to her three surviving children Andrea Foody, Alexandra (Alexie) Buhrer and Marcus Nicholas.

In 1973, she began her middle school teaching career in the subjects of Home Economics and Science. Helen’s hands were always busy. She was a master seamstress and enjoyed gardening, shopping and spending time with her six grandchildren, Nicholas Hammer, Bobby Farlin, Bailey Buhrer, Blake Buhrer, Miles Nicholas and Ryder Nicholas.

Service will be held at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary, 850 Keokuk Street in Petaluma at 11am on Monday, November 22, 2021 followed by a private burial.

Mrs. Foody’s Petaluma Junior High Cinnamon Rolls

Preheat oven to 425

Bake time 10-15 minutes

Rolls

2 C flour

1 T baking powder

1 t salt ¼

C shortening

¾ C milk

1T melted butter

Cinnamon and sugar mixture

Frosting

1 t melted butter

1 C powdered sugar

1 T Water

1 t vanilla

Instructions

Stir flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl. Cut shortening into the bowl and mix until crumbly. Stir in milk with a fork. Roll out dough, spread melted butter over the dough. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar all over. Roll up and cut into 1 inch slices and place in a cupcake pan.

Frosting: mix all ingredients together and drizzle over warm cinnamon rolls.
