Howard Franklin Gettle - Howard Gettle was born in LeGrande, Iowa on Feb. 17, 1921 to Ralph and Evah Gettle. Loving husband of Doris and adored father of Bonnie Harmon (Bud), Michel Shaw (Ken) and Carol Rathmann. Stepfather of Trinnette Nelson, Jeff Sandine and John Sandine. Grandfather of 15 and great grandfather of 7. Howardâ??s brother, Bill, preceded him a death a year ago. Sisters: Geraldine Zmolek, Charlotte Verbraken and Betty Ann Rozevink will miss their big brother. Numerous nephews and nieces are part of this Gettle family. An Urnside Service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. at Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery, Dixon. A memorial celebration for friends and family will follow. Howard completed his journey through life on October 6, 2007 after accomplishing all of the dreams of his life. He retired with Military Honors from the US Coast Guard as CWO in 1981 after more than 40 years of service. He retired after working for the City of San Francisco for 27 years as a mechanic; moved to Rohnert Park in 1977 and he and Doris spent many happy years touring the country visiting family and friends. He was an active member of his trailer club, Elks Club and Moose Lodge â?? he was a joiner and a doer! He spent his final days the same way he lived his life â?? with dignity and respect for everyone.
