Ida Piotrkowski - Ida Piotrkowski passed away quietly Thursday, July 23, 2009. Born in Lask, Poland, December 1, 1918, Ida was the daughter of Chiel Yitchak and Hendel Boms, sister of Raizal, Masha Leah, and Rana. In 1951, along with her husband Josel and two young sons, Ida immigrated to the United States via New Orleans coming to Petaluma to join Josel's brother, Gabriel and his family. Settling in Penngrove in 1953, Ida and Joe raised chickens, sold produce, and ultimately running a successful scrap metal business. Ida had a gift for languages, being a fluent speaker of Yiddish, Polish, German, Russian and English. In her view, Ida's most notable accomplishment was surely her family. She was matriarch to sons Irv (CiCi) and Nathan (Terry): grandchildren â?? Lisa (Stephen), Jaime (Jon), Sayre, Julia and Aliya: great-grandchildren - Cameryn, Alyson and Erin Shoemaker and Stephen and Mackenzie Thomas. Ida was the sole holocaust survivor of her family, having survived Nazi concentration camps in Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen as well as various labor camps.
