JACK HOWARD HERRGUTH LIFE TRIBUTE
Beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jack Howard Herrguth passed away peacefully at home on January 5 surrounded by his loving children.
Jack was born on June 10, 1928 in San Francisco, CA, to his parents Samuel and Rose Herrguth. He attended Roosevelt Junior High and George Washington High School, where after graduation he worked at Bloom's Department store with his father.
It was in San Francisco where Jack met Jean, the love of his life. They married on August 6, 1950. In the years that followed, Jack worked at Spreckels-Russell Dairy as a deliveryman and as a traveling salesman for Levin's Auto Supply to support his young family.
In 1960 Jack and Jean moved up north to Santa Rosa with three young kids in tow and soon had two more. Together they raised a family and enjoyed over 65 years of married bliss. Their love was nothing if not prolific. In addition to their 5 kids, Jack was a loving grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 13.
Jack was successful in business as well. For over 30 years he owned Village Auto Supply in Santa Rosa and Guerneville Auto Parts. After he retired, he realized he still had the itch to work and for several years worked as a car salesman in Sonoma County. He loved the art of the deal!
In 2005 after he and Jean retired, Jack suffered a major stroke. Although this would have discouraged the average person, Jack met his challenge with courage, humor, grace and most importantly, with a smile on his face every day. He was an inspiration to his family, friends and even strangers. He was a popular regular at Dr. Sample's Speech Class ---- and made friends wherever he went.
Jack enjoyed movies, music, dancing, fishing, watching TV, and cheering on his favorite Bay Area sports teams. He also loved dogs, coins and stamps, traveling, entertaining family and friends, and making everyone around him laugh. He was a constant champion of his family, and a role model to all who met him.
He is survived by his beloved children Kenneth Herrguth (Jerri), Lori Gamber (Tom) and Kim Herrguth Byrn of Santa Rosa, John Herrguth (Nicole) of Saint Helena, and Jack Herrguth, Jr (Jennifer) of Los Angeles, sister Sandra Templin and brother-in-law Hubert Templin of Palm Desert, sister-in-law Dona Santo of Foster City, 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jean only a few short months ago. Their love was so strong they are reunited once again.
The family would like to thank Joesefa Tiko, who cared for and looked after Jack for the last several years.
Jack's passing has left us with an irreplaceable hole in our hearts. We will miss him always, and so will his constant companion and lapdog, Tia.
