James J. McGloin died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at his Petaluma home. He was 86 years old. He and his wife Barbara moved to Petaluma in 1970. In 1971 he was hired as vice principal of Petaluma's new high school Casa Grande. In 1982 he became principal of Casa and remained in this role until his retirement in 1993. Jim believed that every student mattered and deserved a chance to succeed. After retirement he served in the community as a volunteer for Petaluma Kitchen and provided a tutoring program at the Petaluma library. He was a member of both the 7-11 Lion's Club and the Knight's of Columbus as well as a devout and active parishioner at St. James Catholic Church. Jim gave his children his unqualified love and support. He instilled in his children the importance of education, a commitment to faith, the duty to give back to the community, a love of nature, and the belief in the goodness of others. He has had the good fortune of having six grandchildren all of whom he loved dearly.
Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara, his children Anne Livingston (Dennis) of TX, Mary McGloin of NY, Joseph McGloin (Nicole) and Kathleen Walker (Cheyenne) both of Petaluma; his grandchildren Kellen, Ellie and Logan Livingston, Emma and Kylie Walker, and Hazel and "baby on the way" McGloin; his siblings Noreen McGloin, Thomas McGloin (Patty) and his brother-in-law Bill Boyle all of NY, and Anne McDonough of RI; and too many wonderful cousins, nieces, and nephews to list. Jim was preceded in death by his brothers Roger and Joseph, sister Mary Boyle, and brother-in-law Patrick McDonough.
The family is indebted to all the extended family and friends who have provided support and prayers over the last few years. They are especially grateful to Anasa Koroitamana for the loving care he provided Jim for almost 3 years. Also, to Watisoni Tukana and Hospice of Petaluma for the wonderful care they provided during these last few months.
