James L. Schiavone

May 3, 1946 — September 16, 2013

James (Jim) was born May 3, 1946 in Sebastopol, CA to Vincent & Mabel Schiavone (both deceased). Jim graduated from Analy High School Class of 1964 and attended Sierra College in Rocklin, CA. He served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army with 501st Military Police Company, 1st Armored Division. A lifelong member of the Cazadero Community, he spent many years as a volunteer fireman with the Cazadero Volunteer Fire Department. During his years as a volunteer, he helped with the construction of both fire houses and the Cazadero community park. As a truck driver for Berry's Sawmill for over 34 years, he was known for his smile and wave as he would pass friends and members of the community. His work often caused him to visit remote locations where he would find vintage tractors, cars, or trucks that were his true passion. Many weekends and the years after he retired were spent repairing and restoring the vehicles he had collected through the years. As a man who relished the opportunity to find a good deal (and a good story to go with it), he was always looking for the next piece of history to find and repair to running condition. Jim spent his final years in the place he loved most of all, up on Pole Mountain at the home he worked hard to make a place his children and grandchildren could come explore, and experience all the bounty a country home could offer. Jim died suddenly on September 16, 2013 in Cazadero CA and is survived by his loving wife of over 31 years, Joan (Trigeiro) Schiavone, loving sons Jimmy Schiavone (Michelle) & Joe Schiavone (Jennifer), loving step-children Rich Stubbs Jr. (Amy) & Melissa Stubbs, adored Grandpa to 8 grandchildren, brother Buck Schiavone (Barbara), sister Jan Schiavone, and numerous nieces & nephews. Pre-deceased by sister Barbara Brugger Norris. A service will be held on Monday, September 23rd at 1:00 pm PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY, 301 South Main Street, Sebastopol, CA, 829-5433. Private burial at the Duncans Mills Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to: Cazadero Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 508, Cazadero, CA 95421.
