James A. Smith

March 1, 1927 — January 11, 2015

JAMES ALLEN SMITH, loving husband, father and (great)grandfather, died peacefully in his home in Santa Rosa on January 11, 2015, with his family at his side. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Marie; his mother Anna and father Albert; and his siblings Leonard, Dorothy, and Francis. He is survived by his siblings Al, Ted, Anne, and Marie; his children Christianne, Roberta, Melanie and Jeff; his grandchildren Elise, Evan, Sarah and Laura; and great grandchildren Noah and Desmond. Jim was born in Kansas City, MO on March 1, 1927. He was a Merchant Marine and Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1944 to 1947. Jim married Barbara on June 25, 1950, and completed his BS in Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1952. He went on to work in heating and air conditioning until retiring in 1992, when he was then able to focus on traveling, restoring and showing classic cars, and helping people fix things. Jim will be greatly missed by his loving family, the Redwood Empire Antique Auto Club of America, his Monday night group, all of his neighbors, and his large network of friends from near and far. A memorial service will be held at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, at 850 Keokuk Street in Petaluma on Saturday, Jan. 17th, 2015 at 11:00 am.
