JAMES MONROE WIRTZ passed away on July 11, 2016 in Petaluma on his 83rd birthday. Devoted husband of Wanda L. Wirtz of Petaluma. Cherished father of Herman W. Wirtz, Jeffery Allen Wirtz, and Jamie Melissa Houck. Adored grandfather of James Wirtz, Jacklyn Wirtz, Olivia Wirtz, Joanie Wirtz, McKayla Houck, Erica Houck and Katlynn Mafort. Beloved great-uncle of Hannah Gentry and Abi Gentry. Dear brother of Ida Marguerite and the late Carolyn Kay and Harold Dean. Survived by several nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Wakita, Oklahoma, but reared in Caldwell, Kansas as well as Sterling, Colorado. He was able to attend Colorado State College in Fort Collins, Colorado on a wrestling scholarship. From Colorado State, Jim received his degree in physical education. He joined the US Navy and wrestled for their Navy sports team. After his discharge, Jim began his lifelong career in the construction field. He moved to California and finally settled in Petaluma where he worked as a construction plasterer and laborer. In his spare time, Jim loved to watch his Broncos, play golf, read the newspaper, and his many trips to Reno. Above all, Jim loved his family and friends. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.
