Jason Thomas Escher

d. February 5, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jason Thomas Escher on February 5th, 2022. He was born in Seattle Washington on August 9, 1964 to Carolyn Lee Escher. At a young age the family moved to Nutley, New Jersey where he lived until he was 14 years old. At that time they moved to Petaluma, California where he lived for 43 years. He was a graduate of Petaluma High School and attended college at Santa Rosa Junior College and San Jose State University. In 1987 he started working at Optical Coating Laboratories and continued working there until 2000. He then started working at the Santa Rosa Junior College, which was his passionate and most rewarding career. He continued working there until his passing. Jason took great pride in his work there and his colleagues knew they could depend upon him. He built many relationships with his co-workers. He was very loyal and passionate to his beloved sports teams the 49er’s, SF Giants and Golden State Warriors. He also enjoyed playing pool and was part of a pool league for over 20 years. He was the team captain and top shooter for many years. He often went by “Jaybird” during those days. So many people were attracted to his warm, caring and funny personality. He was 6’5 and a huge teddy bear at heart. He had a wide knowledge of trivia in many different categories. Whenever someone could not remember an actor’s name, sports event year or player’s name they would always call Jaybird. All knew he would have the answer. Jason was a loving husband and father to his children. He will be missed by so many who loved him dearly. He leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Tracy Escher, their son Sean Escher and daughter Melissa Ako, (husband Kaala Ako). Aunt Betty and Uncle David Mekeel, Aunt Bobbie Baldino and cousins Beth Baldino and Michael Baldino. Sister Helen Herring (brother-in-law Pat Herring). Brother Jon Escher, sister-in-law Holly Escher. Nieces Kathryn Swedberg, Megan Shaw, Daniel Herring, Christopher Escher and Anthony Escher. Great-niece Greta Swedberg and great-nephew Louis Shaw.

If desired, friends may honor Jason’s memory and donate to Hospice in Petaluma. Date and place to follow for a celebration of his life.
