Jean was born on July 9, 1931 to Manuel and Marian Katen in Cunningham, California. She was raised there and went to the Mt. Vernon School and then on to graduate from Analy High School. Jean was an only child and as a very young woman lost her mother. Following high school, Jean worked at the Hessel Pencil Factory and at the Sebastopol Cannery. In 1956 she married and continued to live in Cunningham until 1994 when they moved into the city of Sebastopol. She enjoyed gardening and always had a beautiful yard. Jean loved to make jigsaw puzzles and work crossword puzzles. She was also an avid Oakland A’s fan. Jean’s hobby was collecting sea shells and she had a magnificent display. Jean is survived by her Son Steve (Linda), Daughter Laurie (Ed), Grandchildren Mike (Natalie and Tatum), Tom (Gina), Denise, Great Grandson Noah and her dear friend and neighbor, Joanne Marion. She was preceded in death by her husband Angelo, Grandsons Chris and John and Great Grand Daughter Eliza. At the request of Jean, no services will be held. Private Interment at Sebastopol Memorial Lawn. A celebration of life is pending. Those who prefer may make memorial contributions to their favorite charity.
