JENNIE MARY BOLOGNA passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side seven months after celebrating her 100th birthday.
She was born in Pittsburg, CA to Giuseppe and Melchiora Russo and grew up in a family of four girls. Of the four sisters, two passed away in their mid 80's: Angelina Leardini (Martinez) and Josephine Cardinalli (Monterey). The oldest sister, Frances DeVasio is 106 years old and lives in Concord, CA.
In 1924, the family moved to San Francisco's North Beach district where Jennie met the love of her life, Vito Bologna and the famous Joe DiMaggio at the North Beach Playground where they played baseball. In 1933, she married Vito and raised their two sons, Victor and Joseph. Their marriage lasted 66 years until Vito's untimely death in 1999.
During their hard working careers, they owned and managed retail fish markets in the Bay Area and were active members of I.C.F. and Sons of Italy.
Jennie is survived by her two sons and their wives, nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, not to mention many nieces, nephews and close friends who will all miss her dearly.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy., Petaluma.
