Dearly beloved wife to Melvin D. Herman for 62 years. Loving mother of Judy (Jim) Dockendorff of Cincinnati, OH, Mel (Heidi) Herman of Crockett, CA, Dennis Herman of Hayward, CA, Rick Herman (Carol" deceased) of Sacramento, CA, and Lisa (Mark) Tortorich of Half Moon Bay, CA. Adored grandmother of Kirsten (Joe) Busam, Mark (Tricia) Dockendorff, Eric, Andy, and Kevin Herman, Melissa(Chief) Sidnam, Amanda (Ricky) Spencer, Melanie Herman, Megan and Rebecca Tortorich. Great-grandmother of Dillon and Sadie Spencer, and Kalliope Sidnam.
A proud native of Santa Rosa, Joan attended St. Rose Elementary School, Ursuline High School, and Santa Rosa Junior College where she met, fell in love, and married Mel in 1948. Her growing family quickly became the focus of her life and she took pride in passing down her Italian and Irish traditions to her children and grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was entertaining and hosting holidays as family meant the world to her. She will be remembered as a loving wife and amazing mom, gramie, and great-grandmother.
Joan enjoyed spending weekends on their sailboat on San Francisco Bay, reading mysteries, and cheering on the Giants and 49ers. She was a proud life-long republican.
