Joan M. Murphy

Joan M. Murphy passed away on February 24, 2021 in Petaluma at the age of 83 years.  Devoted wife of the late Daniel Murphy.  Cherished mother of Ann De Jong (Don) of Petaluma; Jerry Murphy (Paula) of Reno, NV; Patrick Murphy (Dina) of Spokane, WA; and Dan Murphy of Redding.  Adored grandmother of Morgan De Jong (Tiffany), Dylan De Jong, Cotter De Jong, Laura Murphy, Erin Murphy, Rebecca Murphy and Jack Murphy.  Sister of Mary Anne Melson (Jim) and the late Bill Benninghoff.  Dear sister-in-law of Ginger Benninghoff.  Survived by several nieces and nephews.

Joan was born, reared and educated in San Francisco, graduating from Star of the Sea High School.  She and her family moved north and settled in Petaluma where they have lived for nearly 50 years.  Over the years, Joan worked for Pete’s Henny Penny, Bank of America, and was the “Lunch Lady” at McNear Elementary School.  She was an avid 49er and Giants fan and was a longtime and dedicated member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she also served as eucharistic minister.  Above all, Joan loved her family.  She was a wonderful woman and will be greatly missed.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Visitation on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 10:00 am with the Funeral Liturgy at 12:00 Noon at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. COVID-19 precautions and social distancing to be observed.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent’s Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma, CA 94952.  Private Inurnment: Calvary Cemetery, Petaluma.
