The world lost a wonderful person, Joan G. Poulos, 88, of Davis and Bodega Bay, California. She died peacefully at home on October 13, 2024 surrounded by her husband, David Lewis and her two children, John Poulos and Alekka Fullerton. Joan was a lawyer, mayor, singer and author. She refused the existence of a glass ceiling, it simply did not apply to her. She became a lawyer when women weren’t lawyers. She became the Mayor of Davis when women weren’t mayors. She opened her own law firm when women didn’t do that. She offered free legal consultations, donated time to Legal Aid, served on the volunteer family law mediation panel and was a volunteer Judge Pro Tem. All while raising two kids. Joan was a highly respected lawyer who fought for equal rights and social justice for all. She fiercely loved her family, loved to travel and loved to sing and play the piano. She travelled to Europe to sing with the Davis Chorale. She was a delegate for American Women for International Understanding and in that capacity travelled to Syria, Argentina, Russia, Myanmar, Ethiopia and even led AWIU’s delegation to India. Joan lived a full, wonderful life and leaves behind her husband, David Lewis, son John S. Poulos, daughter Alekka Fullerton (Michael), Grandchildren Kady, John Michael, Lindsay, Nicholas, Wesley, Kennedy Poulos; Elsie Piper (Nathan), Graham Fullerton (Clare) and Annelise Silk (Sean); and great-grandchildren Nolan (2) and Hugo Piper (6mo). Joan is deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
