Joe Cardoso Vieira (Jojo) was born on January 25,1997 @ 7:41 am at Kaiser in Vallejo, California.
Jojo grew up & lived in different cities, residing in Petaluma, CA, most of his life. He lived in Benicia / Vallejo (1997-2002) & attended Head Start in Vallejo (2001-2002), then attended Kindergarten in Benicia, Ca. (2002). He moved to Turlock, Ca. (2002-2005) and continued at Cunningham Elementary. He moved to Petaluma in 2005, where he attended Bernard Eldridge Elementary, following attendance at Kenilworth Middle school, then attending & graduating in 2015 from Casa Grande High School. In his youth he was very active & participated in different sports & activities. He always had ambition to try & learn new things. He played soccer & football joining several teams such as the PYSL, Petaluma Panthers, Petaluma United & Casa Grande Gauchos. He even learned to play the Clarinet (Band) & joined the High School Chorus. He continued his education in higher learning & attended Santa Rosa Jr. College, on a career path in the medical field, completing the EMT training program in 2017 & graduated from Santa Rosa JC in 2021 with his Associate Degree in Science, Field of Natural Sciences Pre-Allied Health with Honors. He was in pursuit of & aspiring to become a Registered Nurse, later to advance to the dream of becoming a Pediatric Doctor.
In pursuit of his career, 1st job as an EMT with Pro Transport in 2017. He then joined the AMR San Francisco Crew (2018 – 2020), he had ambition of being a physician’s assistance after his treatment at Stanford. He was passionate about saving lives every day, he will always be an EMT at heart.
He was very universal & had a sense of adventure. He had many hobbies included by not limited to, such as playing the guitar, playing pool, archery, skateboarding, snowboarding, hiking, fishing, dancing, running & art. He was a published poem writer/author & even experienced adventures in sky diving. He loved to spend lots of time with Cloud (his beloved sidekick) & enjoyed taking Cloud on walks & teaching him new tricks. Jojo also had an amazing sense of humor & personality. His heart & kindness were always one of his great attributes & was extended to those he loved. He was an all-around great person you would want around when you were feeling down. His light was always shining for those who needed it. His desire to live life & enjoy the moment was one of his greatest endeavors.
In August of 2020, Joe was diagnosed with Acute differentiated leukemia (bone cancer) with a tumor on his heart. One of the rarest forms of cancer with a .0001% rate, so rare, there was no stage for the prognosis. It was only presented as life-threatening and treatment was needed rather quickly, that was the beginning of the journey to survive the Cancer. First chemo treatment by August 26, 2020, followed by receiving a Stem cell transplant on December 22, 2020. The stem cell was successful & was Cancer free.
Post Stem cell continued the journey of recovery, he pursued a new career path & employment by working as a wine consultant (2021-2022) at Ledson Hotel & Zina Lounge. Here he would dress up and look like a GQ model, one of the perfect gentlemen, sharply dressed and ready to impress. He even completed the introductory Sommelier Course in Feb 2023.
In 2022, Joe was experiencing Chronic graph VS host complications, resulting in multiple symptoms that progressed & started to include scarring which resulted in a condition of restrictive lung disease & Dysphagia. In 2023, he had to have a g-tube & was on oxygen full time. In January 2024, he was admitted to the hospital with a rare condition called Pneumopericardium (air around the heart), the hospital treated him with a procedure to remove the air , he was getting better & was in the hope of attending rehab when it was again determined that the air around the heart was at a greater significance & due to the Chronic graph vs host they could not provide any more treatments. He was brought home with hospice, where he entered eternal heaven peacefully.
Joe is predeceased by Great Grandfather’s Manuel M. DeCosta & Phillip Perron, Great Grandmother’s Gladys Norwood (DeCosta) & Jean Demores (Perron), Grandfather’s William J. Calloway, Manuel C. Vieira & Raymond J. Perron. Cousin Steven Ferrumpau, Uncle Paul A. Calloway & Aunt Teresa J. DeCosta.
Joe is survived by Mother Rene’ Jeanette Perron (DeCosta), Father Jose Manual Vieira, Sister Arora Vieira (Perron), Grandmother’s Donna E. Dushkind (DeCosta) & Maria F. Vieira. Aunties Rosa Maria L. Cuevas, Eduvina E. Tovar, Melina E. Tovar, Maria F. Ferrumpau(Vieira). Uncle’s Michael Vieira & Manual Ferrumpau. Cousins Nicholas A.W. Hedgecoth, M.J. Hidalgo, Belia A. Cain, Jasmine E. Cain, Christopher M. Cain, Elisabeth Perez (Ferrumpau), Noah, Madison & Jocelyn (Perez/ Ferrumpau), Niema Rose Bailey, Godmother Brenna M. Garcia, Godfather Jason Scruggs & Cloud (Beloved Dog).
The memorial service will be held on Saturday March 23rd, 2024 at 11am at Oakmont Memorial Park; 2099 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette, CA 94549.
