John F. Bihn, DDS - Doctor John F. Bihn, a native son of Petaluma, born January 31, 1922 to William and Anna Bihn, has joined his Mary Jane with love that is as fresh and eternal as when they made their wedding vows 58 years ago. John Bihn graduated St. Vincent Academy class of 1939 where he left ready for a life time of service. Since the passing of his beloved wife,Mary Jane McCarthy in 1979, John has lived his life in charity and love. His charitable acts were monthly visits to the Hanna Boys Center to provide dental care, caring for the heritage roses at Wickersham Park with the Garden Club, serving at St. Vincent Catholic Church, coordinating awards at Petaluma Swim Club meets, delivered Meals on Wheels for fourteen years and tended to his personal family garden at his D Street home. A kind, gentle, thoughtful and humble man, his joys were his beloved family, the gardens at his home, the Catholic Church, dancing at Cotillion, big band music and Petaluma. Created in love and surrounding him at his passing on June 3, 2010 were Mary and Johnâ??s eight children. He is survived by his many children and grandchildren: Nan and Alan Highstreet (Matt, Jane, Christine), Tree and Tim Bernal (Eric, Morgan), John Jr.and Nicki Bihn(Taylor, Conor, Sophia), Teela and Mike Ridgeway (Katie and Grant Livingston), Jozi and Tim Reed (Anna, Jessie, Jake), Bill and Sherri Bihn (Mac, Fiona), Birdy and John Nagle (Molly, Kelly), and Kassy and Jim Courtright (Nick, Jack, Samantha). John was blessed with loving caregivers, Jonah and Netti Daveta and their three children. A Rosary was held on Monday, June 7th at 6:00 pm and the Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, June 8th at 10:00 am, both at St Vincent de Paul Church in Petaluma. Reception followed at Petaluma Golf and Country Club. Donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church, Meals on Wheels, Hanna Boy Center,American Cancer Society or your favorite non-profit. Educated at Cal Berkeley and UCSF Dental School Class of 1945, John served in the Medical Corp. and retired after 30 years of service, Commander, USN.
