CURRAN, JOHN P. - Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, died peacefully at home at the age of 88 years on May 18, 2014.
John was the devoted husband of Alice Colbert Curran, also from New Jersey, for sixty-eight years. He was the loving father of Patricia Hennessey, Kathleen Jordan, Susan Smith-Gladman and John Curran, Jr. He was also the father-in-law of Mark Jordan, Patricia Curran and Jesse Gladman.
He was a devoted and loving grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
John did his undergraduate work at Georgetown University and graduated with a BA in Economics from Seton Hall University. He gained an MA in Finance and Economics from New York University.
During World War II, John served two years in the US Counter-Intelligence Corp concentrating in China Operations.
John was employed by Texaco, Inc., in New York City for forty years and retired as the Assistant Treasurer and General Credit Manager. At that time, Alice and John retired to Santa Rosa [Oakmont], CA. During their retirement he became active in Star of the Valley Catholic Church, Catholic Charities and the SCOPE Organization.
Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Star of the Valley Catholic Church (545 White Oak Drive, Santa Rosa [Oakmont], CA, 95409). A reception will follow the service in the Fahey Center. Those desiring to attend the Committal Service are invited to meet at 2:00 P.M. at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery- Sacred Heart Lawn (2930 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa, CA, 95404). As an expression of sympathy, the family prefers memorial contributions in John's name be directed to Catholic Charities (P. O. Box 4900, Santa Rosa, CA, 95402).
