John "Johnny" Douglass Lathrop

May 24, 1958 — October 5, 2013

Passed away unexpectedly on October 5, 2013 in Santa Rosa at the age of 55 years. Devoted husband of Toni Lathrop of Rohnert Park. Father of Kerry and Dennis Caldwell-Collins and Josh Solari all of Rohnert Park. Cherished son of Chris Lathrop and Doug Lathrop and Mary Ann Ralsten. Dear brother of David Lathrop and Asia Poppers and Robert and Joanne Lathrop. Larger than life in character as well as stature, John was a loving and generous soul who touched lives and made friends the world over. John served with the Mammoth Volunteer Fire Department, and was a cherished mentor to many colleagues in his professional field, pyrotechnics. A man of great heart and a love for adventure, John relished active hobbies such as hang gliding, slot car racing, downhill ski racing, motorcycle riding, and dirt track racing, and played USVBA volley ball in his youth. He loved golfing with friends, and the angels are about to have the best southern-style barbecue that Heaven has ever known. A former resident of Leeds, Alabama, John remained an active member of Faith Community Fellowship of Trussville, AL. He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Church of Sebastopol, 1000 Gravenstein Hwy. No., Sebastopol. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Redwood Credit Union, 250 Rohnert Park Expy, Rohnert Park, C/O Toni Lathrop to be donated to some of John's favorite charities.
