John Peter Fomasi

Our beloved father, John, peacefully passed at home in Cotati, CA, March 15, 2018.  Dad was ready to join his wife of 71 years, Katie Maffia Fomasi, who passed in June 2015.  Predeceased by his parents Pietro Fomasi and Maria Barella.  Loving father of Marlene Baxman (Ron), Janice Berry (George), Ray Fomasi (Laurinda), and Carol Ward (Joel).  Cherished grandfather of Tom Baxman, John Baxman, Cindy Hunter, Holly Berry, John Fomasi, Gina Ramey, Carly Ward, Jacob Ward, Trevor Ward and the late Amy Baxman.  Great grandfather of nine.  John was born in Novato and attended high school in San Rafael.  He was a Merchant Marine.  He worked for De Carli Brothers until 1960, when he and his nephew, John Bordessa, formed a partnership known as J & J Dairy Supplies.  He retired from J & J in 1984, but soon became restless and began building fences for local ranchers until his final retirement in 2008.  John was an avid hunter and had been a member of Laurel Gun Club since the mid 1950’s.  He was a member of Sonoma Marin Italian Club, Men’s Club of St. Joseph’s, President of ICF and an honorary life member of SIRS.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Vigil Service, Friday evening at 7pm at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 1pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 150 St. Joseph Way, Cotati, CA.  Committal will be at Sebastopol Memorial Lawn.  The family prefer memorials be made to Hospice of Petaluma.
