John A. Matteri - John Matteri was born in Petaluma on Nov 11, 1922 and he died Thursday, June 21, 2012 a few months before his 90th birthday. John grew up on a dairy ranch with his parents and 6 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Petaluma High School in 1940. He met his wife Ethel on the local school bus. Married at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on June 6, 1948. He built his own home and lived there with his wife until his death. John enlisted in the navy. He was stationed at Barbers Point Naval Air Station in the pacific theater. He worked as an aviation electrician on fighter air craft in the air carrier service unit.
Family and friends are invited to a Visitation on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Parkway, Petaluma. Interment: Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Petaluma.
John worked at the Calif. Cooperative Creamery in Petaluma for 43 years. While working there he earned his real estate certificate from the SRJC in1971. When John was younger he enjoyed water skiing with the Petaluma ski club. After his children were born he loved traveling around the country. They went camping in Yosemite valley, Yellowstone and other national parks. After retiring john joined the SIRS branch 100 and started playing golf. John was very proud of his hole in one at Rooster Run in August 2003.
