John Thomas Mcentee

June 7, 1934 — January 15, 2016

With unwavering courage and a positive attitude, John McEntee peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Oakland, CA to James and Mary McEntee and was one of eight children. After High School he served 4 years in the Air Force and was a proud Veteran. When John returned from the service he met the love of his life Barbara on a blind date, they were married for 58 years. They lived in Oakland and moved to Petaluma in 1966 to raise their growing family. John leaves behind 4 children, Bob, Karen (Dave Einers), Marianne (Victor) Waterman, Susan (Mark) Benton, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. John attended night school at Oakland City College earning an AA Degree. In 1989, after 37 years, John retired from the Chevron Refinery in Richmond. He was active in many sports including softball, tennis, horseshoes & bowling. Upon retirement, golf became his favorite sport and he was a Marshall at Rooster Run for many years. John was a member of many organizations, Knights of Columbus, YMI, Elks, SIRS and volunteered often in the community. Above all, John was a gentleman, a master storyteller, loyal to his family & friends and respected by all who knew him. He never met a stranger. John considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family. A special thanks to all of his doctors over the years, in particular the loving care that Hospice provided the last year. A memorial mass is scheduled Friday, January 29th at 1:30 pm at St. James Catholic Church in Petaluma. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of Petaluma. Memorial Mass
