John Anthony Mizera

JOHN ANTHONY MIZERA passed away on May 19, 2016 in Petaluma at the age of 94 years. Devoted husband of the late Yolanda Mizera. Cherished father of Candra Smith (Dennis) of Pacifica, Marilyn Bruce (George) of Petaluma, and John Mizera, Jr. (Laurie) of Danville. Beloved grandfather of Jeffrey Smith, Joshua Bruce (Beverly), Emily Novoa (Joseph), Jeanine Smalley (Preston), Julie Melville (Gregory) and Mark Mizera. Adored great-grandfather of Jackson and Mia Novoa; Domenic, Grace and Mark Smalley; and Gianna Melville. Loving brother of the late James Mizera and Helen Lindeman. John was born in Chicago, IL, but reared and educated in San Francisco, graduating from Polytechnic High School. During WWII, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served his country proudly and attained the rank of sergeant. He was stationed in the Pacific where he worked on B-29 bombers. Upon his return, he separated at Camp Beale, CA, and he later spent time in the National Guard. John was very active in several organizations, especially the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Petaluma Post 1929 and American Legion, Petaluma Post #28. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and bowling. Above all, John loved his family. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.
