It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of John A. Tellinghuisen, an amazing husband, Dad, Grandfather and Uncle, on Wednesday October 19, at the age of 79.
John was born in Jamestown NY on August 7, 1943 to Andrew and Olga Tellinghuisen. Preceded in passing by his parents and siblings: Norm, Ed, George, Martha, Victor and Donald.
In 1962 he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in Novato CA, where he met Sandi, his wife of 58 years. They were married in August of 1964. They made their home in Petaluma where they raised their 3 children.
John worked for 35 years at the Stanford Court Hotel in San Francisco where he started as a utility engineer and quickly worked his way up to Building Superintendent. John was a mentor to many. His loyalty, dedication and honesty helped many people excel in their engineering careers. He was well respected by all. He retired at the age of 63.
After retirement he enjoyed helping family and neighbors with various home improvement projects. He and Sandi enjoyed their weekly scenic drives, which always ended up at a nearby Casino.
His family always came first. He made sure everyone was well taken care of. You always knew John was near when your heard whistling.
He leaves behind his wife Sandi, and their children: Denise (Todd) Parks, Yvonne (Robert) O’Hara, and Jeff Tellinghuisen. Nine Grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Grumps”: Amanda (Johnny), Ryan (Alex), Danny, Crystal (Zach), TJ, Zach (Kody), Casey, Tyler and Mason. Three great grandchildren JJ, Isaiah, and Bayleigh. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
We will celebrate his life on Saturday October 29th.
