Jon Jernigan

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jon Jernigan on December 23, 2024, at his home in Petaluma, with his family at his side. He was 85 years old. Jon was born in Portland, Oregon, on November 14, 1939, to Jerry Jernigan and Theresa Baer. Jon is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jane, daughter Keely Kyne, son-in-law Frank Kyne, and grandsons, Sean and Willie Kyne. Jon moved to San Francisco when he was three years old and grew up attending San Francisco public and private schools. He graduated from Wilkins Private High School on June 14, 1957.

When Jon was 19, he entered the business world, and went to work at General Realty & Bldg. Co. Once he turned 21 and received his Broker's License, he purchased General Realty and continued to manage and expand the company up until his passing. Jon and Jane moved to Petaluma in 1976, and Jon continued to manage General Realty from his office at the Petaluma Marina.

Jon was kind, gracious, knowledgeable, ethical, a trusted advisor and mentor to many. He was also a great storyteller.

Jon enjoyed attending live theater performances, having been an usher at the Geary Theater in San Francisco as a teenager. He also liked attending San Francisco Giants games and playing bridge. His passion, besides real estate, was thoroughbred horse racing.

Private services will be held. Donations in Jon’s memory may be made to the Redwood Empire Food Bank, COTS, and Hospice.
