With deep sorrow and joyous memories, the family of Josefa “Jo” Maria Ramos (Berroteran) announces her passing on July 29, 2025. Approaching 90 years, Jo spent her final days reminiscing with her loved ones on her joyous and accomplished life by sharing cherished memories.
Known to family as “Chepita”, she was born in Granada, Nicaragua on September 6, 1935, the sixth and youngest child to her parents, Arturo and Maria Cristina Berroteran, and immigrated to San Francisco in YEAR.
Jo was a dedicated wife and forever-dance partner to her late husband, Morris, of 57 years. She is survived by her eldest sister, Maria Cristina Ibarguen, her devoted daughters, Alexis (Frank Piscitello), Ofelia (Eugene Angulo), grandchildren, Raquel (Nick Barbarotto), Rodolfo Arco (C), Cristina (Jarrod Burkholder) and five great-grandchildren, all who embody her legacy of living a vibrant life; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who were blessed to carry treasured memories of their lifetime with her.
A faithful Catholic and committed volunteer, Jo spent much of her younger years in Millbrae, California, as an active parishioner of St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church, before she and Morris made the move to Rohnert Park in Sonoma County. There, she quickly connected with fellow parishioners of St. Elizabeth Seton’s Catholic Church, collected and shared lunches for those in need in her community and served on the board of the Senior Center.
Jo was known for her love of God, animals, sewing, cooking, dancing, a good cocktail, telling jokes and her boisterous laugh. She was happiest spending time with her family and friends venturing from Mexico to Europe or creating lifelong memories at one of her favorite get-aways, Dos Rios. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and celebrated for the gifts she gave to everyone whom she met.
