Joseph Augustin

Joe Augustin passed away peacefully at home in Petaluma on November 8th at the age of 86. He is now resting in the arms of our heavenly father.

He is survived by his loving wife Irmgard of 64 years, his sister Maria Detscher of Baden-Baden, Germany, their two children Barbara and Norman along with their spouses Barry and Nicole as well as five grandchildren Alyssa, Joshua, Kaitlyn, Zachary and Chanel and two great grandchildren Eleanor and Milton.

He was born on March 16, 1936 in the Czech Republic where he lived for the first ten years of his life and then spent the next eleven years in Germany where he met the love of his life Irmgard.

In 1957 Joe immigrated to Canada and Irmgard followed shortly thereafter where they were married. Joe received his degree from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in Accounting and Business Administration. Joe accepted a job in Petaluma at the California Cooperative Creamery where he worked for 32 years as Chief Accountant before retirement. During this time Joe also started his own tax and financial advisory business that he grew to over 300 clients most of which became family friends.

Irmgard and Joe travelled the world through their many years of marriage visiting family in Germany and exploring many different countries. Joe was proud to serve his community. He was President of the German Language School of Marin, Member of the National Association of Accountants, Member of Sons in Retirement and Hermann Sons Lodge. He also enjoyed coaching youth soccer and playing in the adult league, but his favorite role was being Opa. He loved nothing more than spending time with his adult children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church, Petaluma at 10:30 AM on December 9th.
