Joseph Novello, Jr

Joseph Novello, Jr - Passed away this week in love and peace surrounded by his family and friends. He lived a life full of love and humor. Joe was deeply in love with and devoted to his wife, Dolores Turner Novello, of 58 years. He was the very proud father of nine children, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ruth, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was born and raised in the house his father built in San Francisco, and raised his nine children in the house next door, yet another house his father built. He worked for the phone company, AT&T for over 40 years, in San Francisco and Sonoma County. He has been a resident of Sonoma County for over 30 years. Joe was a member and volunteer with his church, originally at Epiphany in San Francisco, then at St. Philips in Occidental. One of his favorite jobs with the Occidental seniors was delivering meals to folks unable to attend the weekly senior lunch, and he enjoyed sitting and visiting with them. This gentle man, who often seemed to be very quiet, loved stimulating conversations and had a quirky and sometimes strange sense of humor as evidenced in the last family reunion and in his humorous conversations during these last weeks. He was also a bit dramatic which came very handy at family game day while playing his favorite game: charades! This man, who will be missed, will live on through his progeny, and the love and pride each family member and friend has within them knowing they were a part of his love and life. Much thanks is offered to his loving church family at St. Philips, the nursing staff of Palm Drive Hospital and the Hospice family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Philips Building Fund, 3730 Bohemian Highway, Occidental, CA 95465. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service commencing at 7:00 pm at St. Philips the Apostle Catholic Church in Occidental. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 8 at 10:00 am at St. Philips with interment to follow at Druids Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY-SEBASTOPOL, 829-5433.
