Joseph Arthur Remley

April 1, 1936 — February 17, 2022

Joseph Arthur Remley died peacefully at home the morning of Thursday, February 17, 2022. Joe was born to Lucian F. Remley and Zita Donegan Remley in North Platte, Nebraska on April 1, 1936.

He was preceded in death by daughter Janet Remley, brothers Edgar and Noel and grandson Corey. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linda, daughters Jean Remley (Chris Hofland) and Ann Scheder-Bieschin (Max) and grandchildren Maximillian, Caitlin, Gabrielle, Jenna, Kyle and Raini Josette.

After Joe earned his degree in civil engineering from Loyola University in Los Angeles, he worked in different capacities for several government agencies. His favorite jobs involved construction projects. Early in his career he helped build the California Water Project, serving the needs of a growing state. Near the end of his career he was the General Manager of the Central Marin Sanitation Agency, managing the construction of and running the sewage treatment plant in San Rafael, California, the largest of its kind west of the Mississippi River.

In 1974, Joe was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church in the Diocese of San Diego. He enjoyed serving the parishioners in the parishes in which he resided throughout his life - baptising, preaching and serving where needed.

Joe was never happier than when he was serving others, whether his family, co-workers, friends, parishioners or the people he ran into every day. He will be remembered for his dry wit, caring heart and helpful nature by those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe's memory to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Santa Rosa, PO Box 4900, Santa Rosa, CA 95402.
