Joseph “Joe” James Tremari, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and lifelong rancher, passed peacefully in his sleep at home on November 27, 2022 just shy of his 94th birthday. Born on December 23, 1928 to James and Mary Tremari in Petaluma, Joe went to Tomales High School, class of 1946, where he played baseball and football. Joe enjoyed telling family and friends the epic story of how he helped drive the family’s cattle from Tomales to Bloomfield when he was 18, after his parents purchased a sprawling ranch property in western Sonoma County. Alongside his father and two brothers, Joe helped operate the family dairy, raised replacement heifers, and later grazed beef cattle on the beautiful coastal hills of the ranch he would call home for the rest of his life. In 1948, a friend introduced Joe to his first and only love, Dorothy “Dot” Anne Laslovich. Joe and Dot married a year after their first date and settled down as newlyweds on the ranch where his Italian family warmly welcomed the city girl from San Francisco. Ranch life was hard work, with Joe’s 12 hour days starting at 4 am when he went out to milk the cows, but it was also filled with good times. In the early years, his mother made big Italian meals for the family and ranch hands and everyone dined family style for lunch in his parents’ home. Extended family and friends would often gather to make sausage and Joe became a master sausage maker under the guidance of his father. Joe also became a championship bowler in the Petaluma league and was a member of the United Ancient Order of Druids Tomales Grove #83 for over 75 years. When he and Dot were first married, Joe would gather on Sundays with a group of local men to play baseball at a field at Bloomfield Elementary School, while their wives cheered them on. Afterward, Joe and Dot would drive their new Packard to the only joint in town (the building where Stormy’s is now located) to join their friends for a few beers. Joe and Dot’s home was filled with even more happiness when they welcomed their first son Joseph Jr. in 1952, followed a year later by the birth of their daughter Linda, and their youngest son Glenn in 1955. In later years, Joe enjoyed having his grandson nearby when Gino chose to make his home on the ranch and the two ran the family cattle business together. Joe and Dot vacationed on the Big Island of Hawaii for 43 years, spending time with family and friends while enjoying the tropical life. They also made time for weekend wine tasting getaways in Sonoma and Napa, and shared good times at their vacation house in the mountains of Chester. They were deeply saddened when it was destroyed by the Dixie fire. Through the years, Joe and Dot spent many evenings on their porch, he with a glass of red wine and she with a flute of champagne, enjoying each other’s company. Joe will be greatly missed, though his family and friends are grateful for the countless memories of his warmth, laughter, wit, and humor that they will continue to hold dear in their hearts. Joe will be reunited in heaven with those who preceded him including his beloved son Joseph and cherished daughter Linda, parents James and Mary, brother Alessio, sister Evelyn Ramatici and a group of best friends that he knew nearly all of his life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 73 years and love of his life Dot, his treasured son Glenn, and the grandchildren whom he adored, Gino Barbera (Erica), Lori Palmer, and Ashton Tremari, great grandchildren Chloe, Joe, and Emilia Barbera, and Santina Palmer, brother James Tremari (Rosalie), and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, December 5, 2022 from 11 AM to 6 PM at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory, Petaluma. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Catholic Church of the Assumption in Tomales at 11 AM. The cemetery burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sutter Care at Home - Santa Rosa (Hospice).
