Josephine Zolezzi Balistreri

Our mother, JOSEPHINE ZOLEZZI BALISTRERI passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2017. Devoted wife of the late August “Gus” Balistreri. Josephine was the matriarch of our large family. Cherished mother of Joaquin “Jack” Balistreri (Kathy), Rosemary Garzelli (Jerry), August “Augie” Balistreri (Kelly), John Balistreri (Alvina), and Joseph “Joe” Balistreri (Joey). Beloved grandmother of fourteen and great-grandmother of fourteen and one on the way. Loving sister of John Zolezzi, Jr. Dear sister-in-law of Jenny Balistreri. Survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in San Diego. Josephine was born and raised in San Diego. She met and married the love of her life, Gus, and they started their family in San Diego and moved to Petaluma in 1969. Together they enjoyed nearly 65 years of marriage until his passing in August 2016. Josephine worked for the Petaluma School District as a teacher’s aide, and after retirement became quite the quilter. She gave the most beautiful quilts to those special people in her life. Josephine was a force to be reckoned with; she was fun, feisty and opinionated. She also loved to have a good time. She was a wonderful woman, and she will be missed. The family would like to thank Akanisi “Aggie” Ligairi and Emele Taivei for their devotion to and loving care of our mother. A Celebration of Josephine’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma. Private Inurnment. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Petaluma. Memorial Mass
