Katharinealice Hayes

August 23, 1939 — May 2, 2024

Corte Madera, California

Katharinealice (Kitty) Hayes passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024.  She was 84.

Kitty was raised in Larkspur as the only child of Herman and Lorraine Hale. Growing up, she fostered a fierce independence and many artistic gifts, most notably a celebrated soprano voice. She met William (Scott) Hayes in 1959 and five months later they were married.

Kitty taught elementary education throughout Sonoma County for many years, finishing  her teaching career at La Tercera Elementary.

Kitty was a sought-after soloist and choir member, and sang for the USO,  community theatre productions and Mu Phi Epsilon.

When Kitty retired, she focused on supporting her family, travel, and volunteering at WildCare.  Kitty and Scott also made sure family were together for vacations twice a year.

In 2020, Kitty and Scott relocated to an assisted living facility, where they maintained their active support of their family and church.  Kitty led her new community in weekly sing-a-longs.

Every person who encountered Kitty was acutely aware of her fierce intelligence, quiet faith, and sacrificial love – and these qualities, particularly as expressed in the love she shared with her husband, set an example for the marriages and families of her children and grandchildren.

Kitty is survived by her husband, Scott, four children, Jessica (Klinker), Jennifer (Fisk), Scott Hayes, and Johanna (Kecskes) and their spouses, Matthew Klinker, Ray Fisk, Sarah Hayes, and Ken Kecskes, eight grandchildren, Camille (Klinker) Rall, Ryan Klinker, Cole Fisk, Emma (Hayes) Whitsett, Abigail (Hayes) Noe, Cameron Kecskes, Alex Kecskes, and Eliza Hayes, and their spouses, Christopher Rall, Matt Whitsett and Jake Noe, and great-granddaughter, Lily Rall.

Her memorial service at the Church of Our Savior in Mill Valley will occur on July 6th at 3pm.  Donations can be made in Kitty’s name to WildCare.
