Katherine "Kitty" Colzani

February 25, 1926 — July 11, 2013

KATHERINE "KITTY" COLZANI passed away on July 11, 2013 in Sonoma. Devoted wife of the late Louis E. Colzani. Beloved mother of Cyndi Colzani of Petaluma, Louis A. Colzani (Kristy) of Pleasanton and the late Alicia Louise Colzani. Cherished grandmother of Kristen Joyce, T.J Joyce, Christopher Colzani, Matthew Colzani and Emily Colzani. Beloved great-grandmother of a great-granddaughter (Frankie) on the way. Loving sister of Chris Imbimbo (Sam) of Santa Rosa. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Age: 87 years. Kitty was born in Eureka, CA to Greek immigrant parents, Ariadne and Jack Chacakis. After high school, she was inspired to assist in the war effort and so moved to San Francisco to work for the FBI as a switchboard operator. After marrying Lou, she stayed home for a while to be with her children. Kitty worked as a secretary at Balboa and Woodrow Wilson High Schools. She received her real estate certificate and later her broker's license. She owned and operated her own brokerage in SF, known as Colzani Realty, employing several agents. When her children were older, she went to work for the San Francisco mayor's office under Mayor Joseph L. Alioto. It was during this time that she was appointed Secretary of the Recreation and Park Commission, to which she was subsequently reappointed under Mayors George Moscone and Diane Feinstein. As Commission Secretary, Kitty was able to meet many interesting figures and celebrities, as well as gain access for herself and her family to many concerts and special events. Upon retirement, she and Lou moved to Bodega Bay to enjoy the beach and their family. Kitty was a true Renaissance woman. She had a talent for drawing people, young and old, to her with her wonderful personality, sense of humor, welcoming attitude and fantastic cooking. She was well read, educated and a hard worker, and never let the glass ceiling keep her down. Kitty had a natural talent as an artist, and when, at age 68, she felt the need to tap dance, she took lessons and went on to perform in numerous recitals. She was an amazing woman; she will be deeply missed. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center, 207 Skyline Blvd., San Francisco, CA 94132. Family assisted by PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, Petaluma (707-763-4131).
