Kikuyo "Michiko" Barnes - Michiko was born in Tokyo, Japan on February 25, 1933. She went to see her Lord on December 25, 2011. She is survived by her husband of 49 years Mitch Barnes; a daughter Allison Kalpakoff (Rick); two grandchildren, David Mangon (Kelsey Johnson) and Danielle Mangon all of Petaluma; brothers Tatsunsuke Yamaguchi, Masakazu Yamaguchi, and Kazuo Yamaguchi; sisters Toshiko Masuko all of Tokyo, Japan and Peggy Sedenquist (Ron) of Escanaba, MI. There are also dear friends Linda and Gary Schindler of Petaluma. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy., Petaluma. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Redwood Regional Medical Center in Petaluma for their care and assistance for the past 25 years and to Teresa and the caregivers and staff at Hospice of Petaluma. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St., Petaluma, CA 94952. Family assisted by PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, Petaluma. Michiko met her husband in Japan when they both worked at a military base. They were married and came to the United States in 1962 and resided in Cheyenne, WY for a short while. In 1963 she and Mitch returned to Mitchâ??s home in Petaluma as Mitch was stationed at Hamilton AFB. I n1972 she went to work for Whisper Soft Mills as a seamstress. Later she was promoted to Production Supervisor until the company moved to North Carolina in 1985. In that same year, she and some of her coworkers started their own sewing company called Harmony Manufacturing. The company closed in 2000.
