Leonard H. Sabourin

March 8, 1921 — October 22, 2017

Leonard H. Sabourin, loving husband of Martha and father of five children, passed away at his Petaluma home on October 22, 2017, at age 96.

Leonard was born in 1921 in the farming community of McIntosh, Minnesota, and had six siblings. He fought in World War II, earning a Bronze medal as an Army lieutenant. He married his wife, Martha, in Seattle, and raised his family in nearby Edmonds before moving to Petaluma in the 1970s. He was a longtime member of Elim Lutheran Church, volunteered with PEP, a senior housing nonprofit, and was active with Sons in Retirement (SIRs), 58. He was an engineer at Boeing for 20 years and later a member of the Stationary Engineers, Local 39, in San Francisco.

He is survived by his wife Martha, sons Greg (Amy), Kevin (Sue), Doug (Debi), Corey (Carlos Gutiérrez) and daughter Cynthia Schlipp (Jim), grandchildren Kate, Christopher, Christian, Ashley, Kaley, Jenna. Leonard received truly compassionate care from Hospice of Petaluma.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, at 11 a.m. at Elim Lutheran Church, 220 Stanley Street, Petaluma, with a reception to follow.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Petaluma or Elim Lutheran Church.
