Lily S. Dykstra - Lily Salay Dykstra, wife of Daniel Dykstra, a former Dean of the UC Davis School of Law, passed away on January 24, 2012, in Petaluma, CA. At the time of her death, Lily was 97. She was born in Superior, WI in 1914, to Joseph and Mary Salay, immigrants from what is now Slovakia but then a portion of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B St., Davis. The Graveside Service will follow at the Davis Cemetery, 820 Pole Line Rd., Davis, where she will be buried next to her husband of 58 years. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to The Oaks Alzheimerâ??s and Dementia Care Center, 450 Hayes Ln., Petaluma, CA 94952 in Lilyâ??s name. Lily graduated from the Wisconsin State Teacherâ??s College in Superior in 1934 with a degree in mathematics. She began her teaching career at Fredrick High School in Fredrick, WI in 1936 where she met her future husband, Dan. They were married in August of 1942. Following the end of World War II, Lily supported her husband through law school and his academic career at the University of Utah where Dan progressed from law professor to Dean of the Law School, to Academic Vice President. In 1966 they moved to Davis to assist in the beginning of the UC Davis School of Law. Lily spoke Czech, Polish, and English fluently. She maintained an abiding interest in music all her life.
