With profound sadness, the family of Lois N. (Byrd) Dolley, aged 85 and a longtime resident of Santa Rosa, announces her peaceful passing on September 24, 2025.
Lois was born on January 25, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, to Albert E. Byrd and Lois N. (Holcomb) Byrd. She is lovingly survived by her four sons: Patrick(Karen), Michael(Laura), Curtis(Valarie), and David(Rachel) Dolley. She also leaves behind her brothers, E.E. (Tex) Byrd and Terry Byrd. Her brother, Leland (Tad) Byrd, preceded her in death.
She was a proud and cherished aunt to several nieces and nephews. Locally, she is remembered fondly by her nieces Julianna, Rebecca, Jennifer, Briana, Megan, and Lia.
Lois was an independent spirit throughout her life. During the 1960s and 70s, she spent nearly a decade as a dedicated member of the “Citrus Heights Ladies in White,” a volunteer first-response group that served the community before widespread ambulance services were available. These courageous women delivered babies, administered lifesaving first aid, and responded to emergencies of all kinds. Lois also served proudly as a Sacramento Auxiliary Police Officer for several years.
All four of her sons served in the Armed Forces, something that brought her immense pride.
Lois wore many titles throughout her life: sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Her presence, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 PM on October 20, 2025, at Cypress Hill Memorial Park, located off Magnolia Street in Petaluma. A gathering will follow at a nearby family home to continue the remembrance.
